How to get there!

It's hard to find places to go. I have found many exciting descriptions of all kinds of places to go within 2 hours of my house here in Temecula.  What I DIDN'T find were directions on how to get there (with a couple of exceptions). Because I think people might actually want to know how to get to some of the places I've been, I'm providing directions here.  Note: All directions start from Temecula, Ca., 92592

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park:

Take Hwy 79 South to S2 and head East. Continue East for about 12 miles to S22, and head North.  This will take you into the town of Borrego Springs, where you can purchase maps of all of the trails available in the park.   There is a $5 day use fee to use the park.

Los Coyotes Indian Reservation:

Same as above, but turn left on Camino San Ignacio in Warner Springs, about 3 miles North of S2.   You will get a map of the trails with your $15 fee, which is good to 4PM, after which you will have to pay another $15 to stay.  An overnight camping permit can be obtained for $20, with an extra $5 if you want to tow a vehicle in. All guests must be off the reservation by 5 PM Sunday afternoon.

Ocotillo Wells:

Same as for Anza-Borrego, except instead of turning North on S22, continue on S2 to Hwy 78, and head East for 36 miles.  Ocotillo Wells is off Hwy 78.

Salton City - TruckHaven:

Take Winchester Rd. to Hemet.  Turn right on Domenigioni Parkway and continue South to Sanderson St.  Turn left, and follow this all the way to Beaumont.  Get on I-10 East and continue to Indio, where you will pick up 86 South.  Follow 86 S. to Salton City and turn Right on North Marina Drive.  Go in about a mile or so, and the road ends.  That's the start of the wash where the camping for the TDS Desert Safari is going to be.  Head into the hills, and you are in TruckHaven.  Lots and lots and lots of trails to be explored.

Big Bear

This is a bit of a drive, but makes a great weekend trip - bring a tent!  To get there, get on the I-15 north and head up to the I-215 North.  Take this up to the I-10 and go East to Route 38.  Follow Route 38 all the way up into the mountain (this is the back way; you could also take to 30 to the 330, which is the main way, but there's lots of traffic and delays).  Once you get to Big Bear City, stay on the 38 to end up on the north side of Big Bear Lake.   Follow the signs to the Big Bear Discovery Center, buy a map, and have fun!   NOTE: On the way back down, DO NOT take I-215 South.  Instead, continue west on I-10 until you reach I-15, and head south.  There is MAJOR traffic at all times at the southbound I-215/Rt. 60/Rt. 91 merge.  If you go this way, expect at least a 45 minute delay, regardless of time of day or day of week (Sundays are especially bad).
