So, what broke? Well, here's a list.
Well, I've broken a LOT of stuff since I first started this list, So I'm breaking this list into categories. I'm also adding a section for modifications I have made to the Jeep since I got it.
Modifications:
- 3" Rough Country Suspension Lift
- Detroit EZ-Locker in the front Dana 44 Differential
- PowerTrax No-Slip Locker in the rear AMC20 Differential
- 32x11.50x15 BF Goodrich Radial Mud Terrain tires
- 15x8 Chrome Spoke Wheels
- Magna-Flow high flow muffler
- Onboard Air
- Trimmed Fenders
- Limo Black tint all the way around
- Cobra 29LTD CB Radio
- Sony high power cassette deck w/Pioneer 6x9 3-ways in the doors
- Heavy Duty Driveshafts and U-Joints, front and rear
- Personalized License Plates - GUMBY JP
Repairs I've made
- Replaced Ignition system (Dist cap, coil, wires, rotor, ignition module)
- Re-built the Motorcraft 2150 Carb
- Replaced all front wheel bearings, including spindle bearings
- Replaced front brake calipers and pads
- Replaced left side motor mount
- Replaced transmission mount (twice)
- Flushed the cooling system thoroughly and replaced faulty fan clutch and thermostat.
- Replaced the smog pump
- Replaced crappy aluminum lift blocks with steel blocks
- Repaired front left spring
- Converted AC to r-135 and recharged system..blows cold, but not ice-cold
- Pounded out numerous dents, then gave up
Things that have broken:
- Front Driveshaft - Twice! Once at the 1st annual MDA Off Road for Hope event, and once at TruckHaven over New Year's
- Motor Mount, left side - I broke this at Los Coyotes going around El Hill
- Tranny Mount - Twice! All the rough stuff I do
- Lift Blocks in the rear (yes, the blocks) - I dropped on a rock squarely on the pinion yoke, which twisted the axle up, shattering the el cheapo aluminum blocks I got from Pep Boys; I'll never make that mistake again.
- Front left leaf spring retaining bolt. This broke at the 2nd annual Big Bear Forest Fest. I didn't even notice it was broken until I got home. The steering was a little off, but I thought it was a slightly bent tie rod. Oops.
- Front left spring hanger. This cracked when I started towing the Jeep. I had it welded together, and it has held ever since.
- Power windows on the drivers side, both front and rear - The tracks gave up the ghost.
- Tailgate window motor - Stopped working one day. Turned out to be the safety switch.
- Rear Driveshaft U-Joint, the one that connects to the transmission. This happened to me driving on the freeway; scary. I pulled the driveshaft and got it home. The cop that stopped for me looked on in amazement as I pulled the shaft and then said I was ready to go home. I guess he never got the fundamentals of "4" wheel drive. Duh.
- The rocker panels are toast
- The whole right side of the truck is wrinkled after I laid it on it's side while off-roading.
- Exhaust system - I ripped the whole system loose. The exit pipe was almost pinched shut, so I cut the pipe off at the muffler.
- Fan Clutch - It got clogged with mud and gave up the ghost
- Smog pump - also clogged with mud
- I cut a tire on some rocks...I need to get it replaced still
Planned Modifications (not yet started):
Nothing...it's GONE!!!
